About CU Cafe
Underrepresented minorities (URMs) make up a small fraction of those pursuing STEM PhDs in the United States, which may leave many URM doctoral students feeling isolated and marginalized. In addition, the lack of diverse faculty leaves many minoritized students without role models and mentorship. CU Café was founded in the summer of 2015 by a group of STEM graduate students and postdocs to help URM STEM graduate students and postdocs build peer-to-peer and faculty-mentoring networks. Our organization allows trainees to identify and interact with URM role models, explore career opportunities, and be productively engaged in the CU-Boulder campus community.
